Letter Pop
Pop the floating letter the voice asks for. A free letter game for children aged 3 to 7.
What your child does
Bubbles with letters float slowly up the screen. The voice says, for example, "Pop the letter M," and your child taps the bubble with M on it. The letter they want is never far away.
What it practises
- Letter name recognition, in both big and little letters (the bubbles mix M and m).
- Looking carefully among several letters at once.
How to play
- Open Educating Edgar and tap Letter Pop.
- Listen for the letter, then pop that bubble. It bursts with a sparkle and the voice says its name.
- Tapping a different bubble just makes it bounce. There's no penalty.
- After 5 pops, a star and praise finish the round.
The bubbles move slowly, and even more slowly if the device is set to reduce motion.
Age guide
Made for children of about 3 to 7: preschool or kindy, and the first year of school (Foundation: Kindergarten in NSW and the ACT, Prep in Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania, Reception in SA, Pre-primary in WA, Transition in the NT). Younger children may like to play with a grown-up nearby.
Good to know
- No reading needed: a friendly Australian voice says every instruction and letter name.
- No timers, lives or scores to lose. Wrong answers get a gentle wiggle or bounce and a chance to try again.
- Letter names only (for example "B"), not letter sounds (phonics).
- Letters are shown in Edu NSW ACT Foundation, a free font in the NSW and ACT Foundation handwriting style.
- Grown-ups choose which letters to practise in the grown-ups corner (press and hold the faded gear on the home screen for 3 seconds). It starts with s a t p i n.
- Works on iPad, iPhone, Android and computers, and offline once it has loaded. Free for personal use.
